The other day when I was installing a software, suddenly I can't recall which one, but if I could find it again, I'll update in this article. I was trying to install the programme in 'traditional Chinese' version; however, I can't find the selection for language but only found the software use country name to decide the language. I was surprised to see how they define country: 'People Republic of China'（中華人民共和國）and 'Republic of China'（中國）. My British friends saw this and was surprised at the selection titles. They were asking me why I don't try to find 'Taiwan'. It's hard for me to explain the details about KMT moving to Taiwan and viewing Taiwan as a 'real China'.
In UK, I prefer to mention that I am from 'Taiwan' rather than saying that 'I am from R.O.C.'. When I travelled with a friend of mine from China to Italy, I saw how airline was confused with two different types of passport associating with 'China' titles. They were asking me where exactly I am from and where my friend is from. (Well, it seems that people who work in the airport check-in desk need more training.) I often say that I am from Taiwan where is based in Chinese culture and we can't deny that Taiwan and China have a shared cultural background. (Well, in International Business concept, we would say it's about the 'psychic distance', which China and Taiwan are quite close due to a shared bond of cultural background.)
I noticed the new government in Taiwan, which is ruled by KMT again after 8 years under the DPP's government, attempts to change some 'title' back to what KMT time was used to be; i.e., "R.O.C in post service", "nationality in R.O.C.". I wonder whether the title of 'Taiwan' will be no longer existed and buried under the rule of KMT. I keep thinking the identity of my country. Will it be only 'R.O.C.' in the future only? or Will it be just 'China' (P.R.O.C.) as we know the name of 'Taiwan' is gradually not allowed in an international concept when it is associated with political situation and when it is due to the strong force of 'China'. China could make a key point that there is only one Chinese culture, and Taiwan is just a regional culture instead of a national culture. Taiwan will be and is always belonged to China (from the perspective of Chinese government).
When I talked to one of my Chinese flatmate, I found how ridiculous she learnt about history from her education in China. She argued that Taiwan was never colonised by Japan, but was only occupied by Dutch, and she reiterated that Mr. Cheng (Zheng, Cheng-Gong) saved Taiwan from Dutch. From that critical point, Taiwan and China have been united. Although I don't think I can really trust her knowledge, it's very obvious about something being missing in this part of her education. However, I am sure in Taiwan (or should I say amongst my relatives, some people think Taiwan has been never a 'country', but is a state of China.)
I'll keep open-minded to see how KMT will rule 'Taiwan' or 'R.O.C.' and how KMT will lead 'Taiwan' or 'R.O.C.' to. I don't want to be too judgmental and make much comments before seeing what citizens in Taiwan or 'R.O.C.' would be benefited (or sold out). In addition, I'll see how media in Taiwan or 'R.O.C.' would operate under KMT's government. Sometimes, it is undeniable that media in Taiwan seem to choose one party to stand for, but are somewhat incapable of delivering neutral information. Hopefully, there won't be only one voice speaking for citizens. It would be in a great lost if media become manipulative and close to be with a power side. (I think it's quite pathetic but people in media industry still need to survive. It's all about surviving and living.)
Well, I am not writing a critique about KMT. It's just a thought of my view in country identity at this moment. All the best for my country.
